Day Four - Monday July 8 - Kinderdijk/Villa Augustus

We planned a visit to Kinderdijk, a half hours drive from Oud Gastel via the A16 to tour the 16th century engineering marvel that claimed 40% of the Netherlands current land mass from the sea.

The canals, mills and pumping stations of Kinderdijk have kept Dutch feet dry for over 700 years. We toured the ONESCO heritage site by boat, and looked inside the museum mills to see how the original families lived inside these gentle giants and kept watch over the water levels in their fields.

At 2:30pm we got back on the A16 to drive back to Dordrecht for lunch.

We stopped at Villa Augustus, a quirky and unique hotel built from an abandoned water tower.

After an amazing lunch in one of the repurposed industrial buildings, we toured the gardens and area before heading back to Oud Gastel.

In addition to the hotel and restaurant, Villa Augusta also has a farmshop and bakery

The Air B&B owner offered us two bikes to our family so we could tour around the village.
Barney rented a mini sized bike for Ollie and prepared him for the ride, accompanied by Uncle Alex and Aunt Katrina.
